How to choose a bed

Best bed manufacturers - which company to choose

Buying furniture is expensive. And deciding on such expenses, we hope to purchase a reliable and safe product that will serve us faithfully for more than one year.

Inexpensive furniture made of chipboard, purchased from unknown factories, of course, can stand in the bedroom for quite some time. But all this time, it will poison the air with harmful fumes. You should not save on your own health - it is better to save a little more money, but to buy a really high-quality bed made of wood or metal from a good manufacturer.

In recent years, Russians are increasingly preferring domestic brands that have launched the production of beautiful and safe bedroom furniture. Their products are now no worse than expensive overseas counterparts. Although we shouldn't write off the famous European and American brands, even despite higher prices.

The rating of the most popular manufacturers of beds today is headed by:

  • Askona;
  • Ormatek;
  • Fratelli Barri;
  • TM "Sonya";
  • Furniture factory "Toris".

You can read about the best models of these and other famous brands in our article. Still, we recommend that you make your choice on your own, taking into account all the nuances. Which - read below.

Types of beds

Wood

Wood

This "classic of the genre." Products from the massif are widely presented both in elite, and in inexpensive rulers practically of all manufacturers of furniture. Wooden beds are absolutely natural and environmentally friendly, never go out of fashion and are able to give any bedroom a cozy look.

Different species of wood, from which the furniture is made, have their own color range and texture, so it’s easy to choose an option suitable for an interior.

The most durable and durable beds are made of hardwood:

  • Oak;
  • Beech;
  • Ash.

Although there are some nuances. For example, ash is afraid of sudden changes in temperature, and oak and beech can crack from strong blows. In addition, processing of solid wood is a technologically complex and costly process, which affects the cost of finished products.

Coniferous wood (pine, spruce) and alder is called soft. Working with her is a pleasure, so these beds are cheaper.

Alas, this medal also has a downside: a light and pliable array does not withstand strong mechanical loads, and there are dents on its surface when struck. This bed will serve less, but it can easily be restored with minor damage.

Even cheaper is panel furniture, for the production of which natural, but glued, bars are also used. According to their characteristics, such beds are not much inferior to a wooden array and even have some advantages - they react less to changes in humidity, and therefore they crack less often “alive”.

Pros:

  • Beautiful and cozy appearance;
  • Environmental friendliness and naturalness;
  • High strength and long service life - especially for hard woods;
  • Normally carry multiple assembly / disassembly;
  • Adequate cost.

Minuses:

  • Great weight;
  • The need to maintain a constant temperature and humidity in the room - however, it is not difficult in the bedroom.

The lowest prices (and, accordingly, quality) are for beds made from wood substitutes: MDF, plywood and chipboard. From this trinity, only MDF-plates can be considered conditionally harmless.

The remaining extruded materials often have a high emission class, that is, they emit toxic formaldehyde vapor into the air. When buying such furniture, you must necessarily require a hygienic certificate to ensure its safety.

Metal (forged)
Metallic

Metal beds are again confidently conquering the furniture market, from which several decades ago they were pressed down by wooden ones. Modern forged counterparts are so original and ergonomic that comparing them with old beds of the Soviet sample simply does not turn the language.

A variety of design solutions allows you to fit such original furniture in any interior - from classic to ultramodern. The metal looks solid and solid, and for the most demanding customers, manufacturers offer chic models decorated with monograms, artistic forging, gold-plated and chrome-plated elements.

Especially organically forged models fit into the design styles such as high-tech, minimalism, loft, contemporary, gothic, urban and related directions.

Pros:

  • Maximum durability and long service life;
  • Environmental friendliness and safety - they even care nothing for fire;
  • Compatibility with many interior styles;
  • Resistance to any changes in the microclimate.

Minuses:

  • Rather big weight;
  • Unpleasant feeling of cold when touched.

When buying a metal model, you must ensure that it is treated with an anti-corrosion compound and allows for wet cleaning.

Combined

Combined

Beds for which production different materials are used, concern to the combined type. And most of these on the market.

Combinations can be any - not only metal and wood (the most common option), but also impact-resistant glass, leather, wicker or rattan, plastic. "Prefabricated" models look very stylish, and most importantly - they often have a more affordable price.

Pros:

  • Relatively light weight;
  • Original appearance;
  • Large selection of models of the most diverse design;
  • The cost is often lower than the wooden and wrought beds.

Minuses:

  • Lower strength and durability.

Bed selection options

Dimensions

It is customary to distinguish between single, one-and-a-half and double beds for both adults and children.

Different manufacturers may have slightly different actual widths within these categories:

1. A single bed may have a diameter of 80 cm to 1 m;

2. Lorry: 1.2-1.6 m;

3. Double: 1.6-2 m;

4. Euro (king size) - over 2 m.

Next you need to determine the length of the bed. It is selected taking into account the growth of the future owner and should go with a margin of at least 20 cm. The standard length of domestic products (with an average growth of citizens of our country 170-180 cm) is 190-200 cm.

If your height is much higher than average, and you do not fit into the established framework, you can order a bed according to individual measures or buy a model that comes with attached foot padded stools or folding sections.

The third important size is the height of the bed base from the floor. But a lot depends on your personal preferences. You can purchase a low up to 0.3 m, medium (0.4-0.6 m) or a high bed that rises 0.7-0.9 m above the floor. The main thing is that you feel comfortable getting up from it.

The form

Here, the palm holds the standard rectangle with confidence. However, it is increasingly possible to meet square, oval or even round beds. But remember: choosing a non-standard solution, you will have to overpay also for the original mattress and bedding, made in the shape of your furniture.

We should also talk about cots for kids older than 3-4 years.A great many of the most diverse models are produced for them: in the form of carriages, locomotives, cars, flowers, etc. But inside they have the same standard rectangle, so there will be no problem finding bedding.

But the length will have to pick up more carefully, because the child continues to grow - not to buy him a bed every year or two. Here you should pay attention to the sliding models that will "grow up" with the baby. The only thing you have to change in this case is the mattresses (they have not yet learned how to grow them).

Assembly type

Any bed consists of two parts - a frame (box) formed by the backs and side ribs, as well as the base on which the mattress is placed. But they can connect with each other in different ways.

There are 3 possible options:

1. The base with its own supporting legs is simply installed inside the box and cannot be connected to it at all. In this case, you have the opportunity to change the individual elements of the bed.

2. The box has internal supports on which the boards or slats of the base are laid. Here, the load is evenly transferred to the frame, and the bottom can be replaced if necessary.

3. The base is hung on the hooks of the headboard and footboard (which are no longer connected to each other) or bolted to them. Such a solution is considered relatively reliable, but delivers a lot of problems during assembly / disassembly. And in the event of a serious breakdown of one of the elements, the whole bed will have to be changed.

Features of the base (bottom)

1. Solid - is a fitted butt wooden boards, sheets of plywood or chipboard. Such a bottom is devoid of flexibility, so it is perfect for both orthopedic and ordinary thin mattresses. Sleeping on a solid basis ensures an even position of the spine, although for obese and elderly people it will be uncomfortable to sleep on such beds. Its only drawback is a lot of weight, especially if the base is made of solid boards.

2. Rack bottom today is more popular because it has less weight, sufficient elasticity and good orthopedic properties. Structurally, it is a frame of wood or metal, to which with the help of strong tape fasten slightly curved wooden lintels (lamellae). Reiki are located at a distance of 3-6 cm from each other and can sag, adapting to any load.

3. Some beds today are also supplied with special clips (switches), with which you can adjust the stiffness of the lamella bottom. This base provides ventilation of the mattress and significantly reduces the weight of the furniture. But an improperly chosen or poor-quality construction begins to creak with time at every turn, which not everyone likes.

4. Some expensive bed models are equipped with an adjustable sectional frame. With the help of a remote control or a manual mechanism on them, you can change the angle of inclination, if you, for example, prefer to half-sit in bed.

The presence of the headboard and footboard

Having one of these elements or two at once is optional. But before you give them up, you need to know what functions they perform. First of all it concerns the headboard.

If it is present on your bed, you win in several ways at once:

1. The pillow rests against the back, does not “run away” and does not rub against the wallpaper on the wall;

2. You can sit comfortably sitting on the bed, placing a pillow under your back;

3. Beautiful headboard will be a worthy decoration of the bedroom.

There are even more functional headboards: with shelves for books, built-in lighting and other small amenities. As for the foot, then without it you can really do without. In many cases, its absence is even convenient.

What bed to choose

What bed to choose

1. For couples who prefer eco-friendly furniture, the best choice would be a double model of a rectangular or square shape made of oak, beech or ash.If the spouses have a different weight category, it is better to take a bed with a solid base, in other cases it will be enough rack bottom.

2. If you need a bed for one person for a relatively short time, you can buy an inexpensive one-and-a-half model of pine, spruce or aspen (furniture board is also a worthy option). In this case, it is better to show yourself a separate base-insert on the legs.

3. Owners of a spacious bedroom can afford a large bed of unusual shape: for example, round or oval, if it fits into your interior. It is better that it was made of solid wood or metal. Newlyweds should look at the models with upholstered backs, so as not to accidentally be injured in a fit of passion.

4. For those whose bedroom is decorated in an ultra-modern style, the elegant wrought-iron or metal bed of a classic rectangular shape will be an excellent addition to the interior. The same solution is recommended for allergies, which have to maintain perfect cleanliness in the room.

5. For people with serious diseases of the musculoskeletal system, as well as elderly parents, experts recommend purchasing medium-sized wooden beds - always on a slatted base and with an adjustable frame.

6. For a lively toddler, the “unkillable” option would be a wooden (exclusively from solid wood) or an iron bed on a solid basis. Choose any form, but most likely the child will like the racing car or the ship.

7. A quiet child or a calm teenager can take a not too expensive one-and-a-half wooden bed made of soft wood on lamellae.

How much is a bed

How much is a bed

1. A single bed from a natural array can be purchased at a price from 4,800 to 90 thousand rubles - depending on the type of wood used. The same single bed with a lamella base will cost 5-15 thousand rubles. But not because it is cheaper, but because of the limited supply in our market.

2. Double wooden beds are larger in size and cost accordingly: from 6000 for the simplest model to 120 thousand for designer furniture from an array of valuable breeds.

3. Prices for metal beds of domestic manufacturers range from 5 to 14 thousand rubles.

4. Good sleeping furniture with an adjustable frame will cost from 40 to 100 thousand rubles.

5. For a child / teenage bed for one child, prepare to pay at least 9-10 thousand rubles. The ceiling in this category is 50-58 thousand, if you want a smart imported model with soft upholstery and “buns” like linen drawers.
